The idea behind the Dark Star reverb was to create something more than a simple reverb, to provide an effect that would add noise underneath the lead, delivering incredible atmosphere and depth. What was created was a long, ambient reverb that would influence the way the song feels, allowing the dry signal to sound as though it sits above the reverberated signal. Three different modes provide a range of reverbs to choose from, letting you find the perfect effect for your playing style.
The Dark Star is designed with a range of controls to shape its tone, with mix and reverb controls adjusting the amount of mix between the wet and dry signals, as well as the amount of decay on the reverbs. A three-way toggle switch offers three modes to choose from, with pitch offering an octave up or down reverb, delay providing a delayed reverb effect, and crush delivering a pitched reverb with bit crush. The CTRL 1 and 2 controls offer different adjustable parameters depending on the selected mode, providing + and – octave controls for pitch mode, delay time and delay feedback for delay mode, and +/-octave and bit crush controls for crush mode.
Creating incredibly long, ambient reverb tones, the Dark Star features a hold switch that delivers sustain on whichever note you played when engaging the switch. This note will then be held for as long as you want, and if the mix is below 100 percent, you can then play above the sustained note, creating a range of incredibly atmospheric tones with layers of depth.
