Traditional loudspeaker protection devices often employ circuits which attempt to dissipate excess voltages into heat or light energy, using components such as light bulbs. These techniques of voltage reduction were often inefficient, offered no control over the attack and decay of the reduction, and did not take into account different frequency components of a complex audio signal. The Eminence D-Fend uses digitally controlled circuitry to reduce the voltage rather than dissipating it, to overcome all these issues commonly associated with voltage protection. This groundbreaking technology makes the Eminence D-Fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection Device incredibly versatile, and able to be used for many different applications.
The Eminence D-Fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection Device's digital signal processing allows it to treat different incoming frequencies in an appropriate way. Low frequencies being sent to sub-woofers will commonly be the most high power signals in audio, as they need to drive the largest speakers. The SA300 can be configured specifically to limit low frequencies, and handle these heavy duty bass signals. For other applications, maintaining a natural sound may be more important than handling large signal loads, and for these the Eminence D-Fend can be set to an RMS setting and the Attack and Decay can be altered to maintain a natural sound.
