Capture your acoustic kit with less setup

The EAD20 brings microphones, triggering, effects, and recording together in one compact system, helping you spend less time setting up. Its dedicated sensor attaches to the bass drum hoop and captures the sound of your acoustic kit, while its built-in kick trigger means you don’t need to add a separate kick trigger to get started. Improved processing is designed to give your drums a natural, balanced sound with plenty of definition. It’s a practical alternative when you want to practise or record without positioning several microphones, stands, and cables around your kit.

Record separate channels straight into your DAW

Want more control once you start mixing? The EAD20 provides 8-in/10-out, 24-bit, 44.1kHz USB audio, letting you make multichannel recordings directly into your DAW. Rather than committing everything to one stereo mix, you can work with microphone audio, trigger voices, and effects independently. This gives you useful flexibility when balancing and processing your drum recording afterwards. You can also use 2-in/2-out USB audio at 24-bit with 44.1, 48, or 96kHz operation—handy when your session doesn’t call for the full multichannel setup.

Build a hybrid kit around your playing

Acoustic drums are only part of the EAD20’s remit. You can combine them with electronic pads and additional triggers, with support for up to nine connected pads when using a Y-cable. That gives you room to layer sounds onto your snare and toms or expand into a more involved hybrid setup. Under the hood, 2203 voices and 256-note maximum polyphony provide plenty to work with, while over 50 preset Scenes and 200 user Scenes help you organise different configurations. Trigger processing includes EQ, transient compression, and insertion effects, giving you further control over electronic sounds.

Practise, record, and create in one system

The EAD20 gives you useful tools beyond capturing your kit. Its recorder supports two-track playback alongside looping and sampling, while approximately 25 minutes of user sample storage lets you bring your own sounds into the module. For video content, Yamaha’s Rec'n'Share app can combine audio from the EAD20 with footage captured using your phone or tablet, including a track to play along with. And with two headphone connections on the module, monitoring is easy to fit into your setup. Together, these features make the EAD20 suited to regular practice, recording sessions, and drum content creation.
