The Gibson Les Paul Classic Player Plus (2018) is a limited run of only 1000 guitars globally providing you with classic Les Paul features alongside some innovative modern features, which are designed to complement your playing experience and tone.

Classic Materials, Modern Finish

The 2018 Player Plus Les Paul features the tried and tested combination of a mahogany body with a maple top, for that unmistakable mid-range vocal quality and resonance that these guitars possess. The maple top is AA grade and finished in satin which brings out the grain in a uniquely artistic way providing a stunningly different aesthetic. It also gives the guitar a soft tactile finish which feels incredibly comfortable in the hands and lets the guitar resonant more freely than traditional finishes. Satin guitars feel more ‘alive’ in the hands and possess a wonderful acoustic resonance that will transfer into a vibrant amplified tone.

Innovative Richlite Fingerboard

The average guitarist is a traditionalist which is the reason why construction woods haven’t changed greatly in the past 50 years or so. However, with the building pressure on the world’s forests, manufacturers are increasingly turning towards responsibly sourced materials. Richlite is a composite material that bears a resemblance to ebony yet, if it were considered for a fingerboard material 50 years ago, it may have been chosen over any tonewood due to its density and consistency. The downside with traditional wooden fingerboards can be inconsistency, creating un-even response across the neck. Richlite doesn’t have these inconsistencies and, as such, is a wonderful material to use in guitar construction providing you with absolute clarity of note response and a smooth playing surface. This is the future of guitar construction and you have your chance to experience it on this 2018 Les Paul. Mounted on the fingerboard are cryogenically treated frets, a freezing method which improves their structure and overall resonance.

P90 Pickups And Quality Hardware

To complement the modern refinements, the 2018 Classic Player Plus features P90 pickups which react beautifully with the resonant satin finished body and provide low power nuanced tones, much like single coils but with more ‘bite’. This guitar features Gibson’s classic Tune-o-Matic bridge with titanium saddles and their classic ‘kidney’ tuners for absolute tuning stability. This guitar is very much like a classic Les Paul but with small refinements in every area, making it more than the sum of its parts and a guitar that looks towards the future of the brand.
