The Gibson Hummingbird Rosewood Left Handed comes equipped with the popular VTC pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an unobtrusive and removable volume/tone control mounted just within the soundhole, the VTC and the Hummingbird together provide the idyllic setup for the professional musicians. The VTC features rotary controls for both volume and tone shaping, and is designed to project the rich sonic character that you'd expect from a mic'd up performance in a studio environment. Gibson are providing players with L.R. Baggs electronics that capture the magic of your guitar's natural acoustic tone, and replicates it perfectly.
The Gibson Hummingbird for left handed players combines a perfect choice of tonewoods to achieve both a beautiful tone and visually striking instrument. Equipped with a sitka spruce top, the Hummingbird provides longevity and uniform grain, offering a sturdy platform. The choice of using sitka spruce offers an idyllic soundboard, and generates and broad dynamic range that can accommodate many different genres and playing techniques. Combined with rosewood back and sides, the Hummingbird also produces clear articulation, with deep lows and throaty growl. Both tonewoods add their own distinctive character to the overall tone of the Hummingbird, and is aptly named for its sweet singing voice it projects.
Constructed from mahogany, the Hummingbird's neck offers plenty of resonance and superb durability. Many instrument necks are crafted from mahogany because the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques with equal ease. The neck is topped with a richlite fingerboard that offers both and feel, playability, and appearance of ebony. Richlite is scratch, heat, and stain-resistant, as well as being non-toxic and non-warping. This environmentally friendly fingerboard is sprinkled with mother of pearl single parallelogram inlays for added elegance and a high-end finish.
The Gibson Hummingbird features a square shoulder dreadnought body and a venetian cutaway, providing players with superb projection and overall tonal balance. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size, as smaller framed players may find this shape uncomfortable and hard to handle. The sheer volume the Hummingbird can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume, as it will sing as loud as you do. Its square shoulders offer a bit more volume and a boomy voice that can handle many styles of play. The Hummingbird also features a venetian cutaway which enables players to reach more challenging chords.
The Venetian Cutaway is renowned for its soft, round lines, creating a visually stunning look that is recognisable on any body. This type of cutaway allows easier access to the upper frets for a comfortable play, and enables you with more freedom throughout the fingerboard.
As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the Hummingbird features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
