Firmware 2.0 for Osmose introduces several significant upgrades, enhancing both its external MIDI capabilities and internal sound engine functionalities. The new External MIDI Mode now includes the MPE Arpeggiator and Pressure Glide, allowing for seamless integration with any software or hardware compatible with MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE).
Users can also save custom MIDI configuration presets, offering greater flexibility. The Sound Engine Mode has been completely revamped, enabling up to 2048 onboard presets, each customizable with sensitivity settings, arpeggiator, and pressure glide features. The update also introduces a favourites feature - a playlist system for better preset organisation, and a new navigation workflow to streamline the user experience.
Enhanced Program Change and MIDI Bank Select (CC0) support ensure compatibility with these features. Additionally, the new sound bank management system prepares for future expansions, while the Osmose now automatically loads the last sound preset used before shutdown. A slightly modified Haken Editor is also included to support the new preset system, ensuring safer operation.
Expressive E's new AKA technology provides three dimensions of control in every key of the OSMOSE. The result is a synthesizer providing unprecedented control more often found in acoustic instruments. The responsiveness of a keybed can have a major impact of the user’s ability to deliver a performance they are proud of. The OSMOSE ensures accurate response using high-resolution sensors. These respond to every nuance of your hand movements, ensuring details often missed on other controllers are defined.
This is achieved in a number of ways. Firstly, the keys provide a subtle yet accurate feedback when pressed. This ensures the user doesn’t have to overwork to create loud dynamics with the OSMOSE, whilst also guaranteeing soft performances are heard with the intended subtlety. The keys also provide superior depth to a standard keybed. This helps the player naturally perform more dynamically by pressing further into the OSMOSE for louder performances.
Expressive E has implemented the EaganMatrix sound engine from Haken Audio in the OSMOSE. This ensures the OSMOSE can be played without a computer or external hardware required. The EaganMatrix is a unique modular sound design environment. Ranging from virtual analog to physical modeling, and everything in between, the EaganMatrix provides infinite possibilities of sound creation. Straight out of the box, hundreds of sounds allow the user to start experimenting immediately. Alternatively, open up the editor and start developing your unique sound.
Intuitive sound editing features on the OSMOSE allow you to make radical sound design changes instantly. A macro control section is dedicated to altering the timbre, texture and effects of your sound. These have been precisely pre-mapped to ensure huge sonic changes can be done seamlessly.
The Continuum Editor, a software editing program available for Mac and PC, allows for even further sound design. The Continuum Editor encourages your creativity by putting the 3 control parameters of the AKA at the heart of the sound design process. The results are often unexpected and will instantly find a place in your music.
Create sounds you never thought possible with your current setup. The OSMOSE has a range of connectivity options that allow you to utilise your favourite hardware and software synths. This can also be achieved by running synthesizers through the OSMOSE that don’t respond to polyphonic aftertouch or MPE. The OSMOSE can be utilised as a classic keyboard controller when in piano mode. In this configuration, standard velocity messages are sent to your DAW/relevant outputs. The OSMOSE is also compatible with the major MIDI protocol from polyphonic expression and MPE+.
