Sousaphones need to be durable to cope with the rigours of marching band life. The 20KW's traditional shape makes it comfortable to hold when standing, but still gives you the full sound - similar to that of a tuba. With such easy playability, it's easier to play complex melodies, which is particularly helpful when marching.
The clear lacquer finish helps to protect the sousaphone and long-lasting nickel silver has been used for the pistons. This metal is more durable than brass as it's more resistant to corrosion.
